About Us

Who are we?

The Edzell Village Improvement Society (EVIS) is a charitable organisation that aims to improve the village of Edzell for all residents and visitors. EVIS was started over 100 years ago, and over time has grown to include a wide range of community enhancing groups and activities.

All residents of the village of Edzell and the immediate surrounding areas automatically become a member of EVIS.

Edzell Village Improvement Society (EVIS) is registered with the Office of the Scottish Charity Register.

What do we do?

EVIS organise a variety of events throughout the year including car boot sales and maintenance days as well as the Bonfire Night (on the Saturday nearest to Nov 5th) and the Gala Day on the first Saturday in August. Gala Week follows Gala Day and is a week full of fun family activities.

There are also subgroups within EVIS that look after specific aspects within Edzell, e.g. The Charity Shop, The Skip Site Group and The Garden Group which work very hard to keep the village looking busy and beautiful.

On Gala Day the Gala King or Queen and his or her attendants are crowned at the Inglis Hall. They then lead a procession up the High Street to the Gala venue on the Muir. Gala Week usually includes a bingo night, a quiz night, a walking treasure hunt, a family bike run, then finishes with a Fun Run and the Flower Show.

Car Boots Sales are generally held on the last Sunday of the month from April to October.

A Christmas Shopping night is held on the first Friday in December with many stalls and activities in the Inglis Hall.
